Recovered weight 159 grains (left photo). The right bullet was shot thru the neck, penetrating the spine at 15 feet and was found 4 inches deep in the sandy soil. The recovered weight 134 grains. Tim was using a T/C Encore with a 24” barrel. His load: 27.0 gr. A-1680, Hornady 180 gr. SSPB crimped in cannelure, Remington brass and CCI 400 Small Rifle primer.
Steve, Here is a big doe I took opening day with the .357 Maxi Handi rifle. I shot her at around 45 yards thru the heart/lungs. Entrance was on the right side behind the leg and it came out under the front of the left leg. She made the mad dash death run about 20 yards and fell into a ditch. The 180 gr SSP went all the way thru leaving about a 1” hole behind and it pretty well destroyed the top of the heart and lungs. I am shooting the SSP over 28.5 gr of AA1680 powder and Federal primers. Randy Stratman
My good friend, Tom Parker from Warsaw, IN shot this very nice 9 point on Nov. 14, 2010. He shot the buck at 127 yards, quartering toward him with his .357 Maximum 21” T/C carbine. The bullet went thru the first shoulder and lodged under the skin in the ribs on the opposite side. The deer ran 130 yards and expired in 15 seconds. Tom’s Load: Hornady 180 gr. SSP, 21.0gr H110, CCI 450 primer, velocity 1975 fps. Recovered bullet is on the right picture.
Steve,
Here are a couple of pics from my first hunt with my new MGM .357 Max Encore barrel in Nunnelly, TN during opening weekend of the 2010 gun season. Pass thru shot on both deer. Brained the doe, and took out both lungs and the bottom of the heart on the 10pt… I love that new barrel! My load: 20.5gr of 2400, CCI 450 primer and Hornady 180gr SSP bullet at 2050fps out of my 18″ .358 bore barrel. Jackson Russell
Steve,
I shot this nice 8 pt. buck at 110 yards. It ran about 5 yards and dropped. Clipped his heart pretty good on a quartering away shot. I had a local gunsmith ream a H&R Handi rifle in .357 mag. to .357 max. Used some bullets (150 gr. SP) I bought from the gun show in Indy a few years ago for T/C contender pistol. Gun held a good group at a 100 yds. but not at 200. I need to get the trigger lightened up before I work on improving my 200 yd. groups. By the way great website! Ed
Jake Shirk took his first buck during the 2011 Indiana Youth Season. He used an H&R Handi-Rifle chambered in .357 Maximum.
Jared Shirk shot this nice 10 point in the 2011 Indiana Youth Season. He dropped this buck at 170 yards from a single shot from a Handi-Rifle in .357 Maximum.
Mike Richardson took this nice buck with a 190 grain Ranch Dog cast bullet and 27.0 gr.of AA1680. The deer went 40 yards after the shot.
Bruce Richter in Alabama with my 2nd deer with the Max.
